Mattie Lopez CantuAugust 21, 1972 - April 12, 2017VisaliaMattie Cantu passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on April 12, 2017 at the age of 44. Mattie was born on August 21, 1972. She was raised in Visalia and graduated, from Golden West High School in 1990. In 1994 she married her husband, Israel Cantu. She was blessed with two daughters, Victoria and Makenzie, born thirteen years apart. Mattie loved to spend time with her family and friends. Family trips and gatherings were always filled with fun and lots of laughter. She loved following her daughters in all they participated in, from her oldest in the Jr. Raiderettes to cheering for her youngest playing softball. She also enjoyed playing Power Rangers with her grandson and hearing his special nickname for her, "Mum-Mum."Mattie had a beautiful smile and an amazing spirit. For the past five years she battled with cancer, and though her body endured much, her smile never faded. She fought for those she loved, her family and friends. Each day with her was a blessing and treasured memories were made throughout this time. Her strong spirit and grace were an example to us all. Everyone that knew Mattie loved her. Though our hearts ache, we know she is completely healed now. Mattie was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her parents, Domingo and Veronica Lopez, husband of 23 years, Israel, daughters, Victoria Berrocales (Luis), and Makenzie, grandson, Luis III, brother, Domingo Lopez (Robin), nephews, Nick and Alex Lopez, and grandparents, Domingo and Victoria Aguinaga, as well as numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Benny and Bartola Vasquez. Our family is thankful for the prayers, love, and support Mattie received throughout her illness from so many. We offer a special thank you to her many friends at Kaweah Delta Hospital and her former employers and friends from Visalia Anesthesia Medical Associates. We are also appreciative of the wonderful care she received from Dr. Havard, her nurse, Grace and all others at Sequoia Regional Cancer Center. You all blessed Mattie abundantly. A viewing will be held on Monday April 17, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel.
