Mattie Pearl Hollingsworth BrownShreveport, LA - Services for Mattie Pearl Hollingsworth Brown, 76, will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 6:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Good Samaritan Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Gilbert Metcalf, pastor of Walnut Hill St. Mary Baptist Church. Interment is scheduled for Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Centuries Memorial Cemetery.Mrs. Brown died on Wednesday, October 26, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on April 2, 1941 in Shreveport, LA where she remained a resident until her passing.Mattie attended Long Sycamore Elementary School and Walnut Hill High School. She was a graduate of Grambling State University, and earned a Master's in Education from Centenary College. Mattie taught at various schools in Caddo Parish including Carver, Lakeshore and Queensborough. She retired on May 1, 2002 after 40 years of dedicated service.She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Earl; her parents, Blanchard and Sarah Hollingsworth; sisters, Barbara Jean Williams, Lillie Mae (Willie) Cummings and Deloris Hollingsworth; brothers; Velpo (Estella) Hollingsworth, Sanders Roberson, Blanchard Hollingsworth Jr., Elbert Roberson; brother-in-law, Meldon Mosley.She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Rodney (Vickie) Hampton, GA; Carlos (Sarah ) Dallas, TX; sister, Doris Mosely; brother, Adolphus (Jeannie) Hollingsworth; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hollingsworth and Etris Roberson, all of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Nicholas (Lillian) Battle, Pentagon, Washington, DC, JeMareau Nunn, St. Louis, MO, Viktoria and Quinton Brown, Hampton, GA, Carlena and Carlus Brown, Dallas, TX; two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
