Maureen SutherlandAGE: 70 • MillsboroMaureen Sutherland passed away suddenly at her home in Millsboro, Delaware on March 23. She was born on September 15,1946 in New York City. Her parents were John and Mae Price, and she was the younger of 2 children. Maureen's career included work in the Government Services Administration, as a medical office assistant, production manufacturing, and Manager of Collections for a national bank. Prior to retirement she started a small home furnishing business which she ran successfully for 10 years. In 1985, she married David Sutherland. Together they would relocate for business reasons from New Jersey to Long Island, and once again to Bucks County, PA. At each new location, David and Maureen would renovate their new home often from top to bottom. In 2014 Maureen and David retired to Delaware to be near the beach. The most important thing in Maureen's life was her granddaughter, Devin. She was born in 1996 to Robert and Nancy Boehm. Nana, as Devin would call her, was never far from her side. Babysitting, shopping, day trips and walking the dog together were a regular routine. Maureen kept all of Devin's school pictures, every scribbled drawing and arts and craft project that she ever did.One of Maureen's favorite holidays was Saint Patrick's Day. On this day she proudly celebrated her Irish heritage. She always wore her claddagh ring and visited Ireland several times. Out of curiosity Maureen decided to have her DNA checked through one of the commercially available ancestry services. Just like the TV commercial, her results showed that she was actually 70% Eastern European and only 23% Irish! Even she thought that was pretty funny.Maureen leaves behind her devoted husband, David, her son Robert (Butch) Boehm and his wife Nancy, her granddaughter, Devin Boehm, and many extended family members.Interment will be at the Newtown Cemetery in Pennsylvania at a later date and services will be private. The family asks, on behalf of Maureen "Big Red" Sutherland and her love of animals, to please consider a donation in her honor to the Women's Humane Society, Bensalem, PA.
