On August 16, 2018, Maurice Walter Jackson, affectionately known as “Jack”, went home to be with the Lord. Our Heavenly Father called our lovely angel home and with a peaceful hear, he transitioned to eternal rest.

Today we celebrate the life of Jack, who was born on March 2, 1958, to the late Samuel T. Jackson and Lillian E. Jackson. Growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland, Jack was educated in the Montgomery County Public School system. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. For a number of years, he was a Logistics Manager for various companies including Richard Solomon’s Sons. He also worked as an Operations Manager for West End Moving and Storage and Delancey Street Movers. Though Maryland was home, Jack spent the past several years in Connecticut with his loving and dedicated partner Vanessa Williams.

Jack was a passionate advocate for persons that struggle with addiction. He committed a lot of time and energy to his work with the Delancey Street Foundation. Whether it was soliciting contributions, creating innovative programs, or garnering the support of prominent community members like Janet Reno, the former U.S. Attorney General, Jack shared his life and light with so many!

Jack had one of the kindest, warmest hearts which was evident to everyone he was fortunate enough to know him. He enjoyed playing football and basketball and traveling. Jack also enjoyed high-performance cars and family gatherings and picnics.

Jack is survived by five stepchildren, Henian Bunch, Stephanie Bolton, Christopher Bolton, Dominic Bolton and Jonte Lawrence; two grandchildren; six brothers, Larry Christian, Paul Christian, Calvin Goodwyn, Bruce Jackson, Samuel Jackson Jr. (Joyce), Timothy Jackson; four sisters, Gay Gordon (Kenneth), Cathy Jackson, Cynthia Jackson (Andre), Sandra Jackson, and Sylvia Jackson; four aunts, Catherine Smith, Elnora Smith, Betty Smith (John), and Roxanna Jackson; one uncle, Harold Moody, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents and grandparents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jackson, his stepdaughter, Lakeisha McCombs, and his brother Lenard Jackson.

Funeral services will be held on August 24, 2018, at Judah Temple AME Zion Church - 14500 Mount Oak Road, Mitchellville, MD 20721. The viewing is from 9:00 am - 11:00 am with the services beginning at 11:00 am.
