INDEPENDENCE – Maxine M. Manson, 92 years old, of Independence, died on Friday, Dec. 2, at ABCM Rehab. Center of Independence – East Campus in Independence. She was born on April 2, 1924, in Jesup, the daughter of George David and Ella Blanche (Beatty) Pooler. She graduated from high school in Jesup and then earned her teaching certificate at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On August 20, 1943, she and LaVerne Donovan Manson were married in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 2005. Before retiring, Mrs. Manson was a bookkeeper at Ward Hatchery and Brown Lane Insurance in Independence. She was an accomplished seamstress and made clothing for her family.Mrs. Manson is survived by one daughter, JoAnn (Allan) Carson of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Rex (Angela) Manson of Independence; and four grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Doris McCalley of Independence; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Bob) Zimmerly of Independence; and a brother-in-law, Virgil (Donna) Manson of Independence.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Bertie Lou Paulus.Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, at the White Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home in Independence.
