MISSION - - Melba Minerva Chapa, 75, died Wednesday, February 01, 2017 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on December 09, 1941 in Mission, Texas. Melba Minerva Chapa enjoyed a long career with Access Esperanza (previously known as Planned Parenthood). She was honored to have received the legacy award for her 41 years of service to her community. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother and grandmother who had a generous and sincere heart. Her grandchildren loved her and thought of her as a super cool grandmother. She was also known for her faith and courage. She is preceded in death by her husband, Adan Chapa Jr.; parents, Crescencio and Maria Luisa Villarreal, and brother, George Villarreal. Melba Minerva Chapa is survived by her children, Sylvia Ann (Albert) Guerra of McAllen, Adan (Viviana) Chapa III of Mission, Maria J. Salinas of Mission and Samuel (Lynn) Chapa of Mission. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Michelle Guerra, Daniel Guerra, Jennifer Chapa and Izabella Guerra, great-grandchild, Emma Chapa, siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.Family will receive friends today Thursday, February 02, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel in Mission, Texas. Funeral mass will be Friday, February 03, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, Texas. Cremation will follow after the service.
