Melissa Ann Scranton 1974 - 2016Melissa Ann (McCarthy) Scranton, 42, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of New Berlin, IL and Springfield, IL, died at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the NorthWest Hospital in Tucson, AZ.Melissa was born on August 18, 1974 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Mike and Rita Garvert McCarthy. She married Tim Scranton on July 10, 1993 in Springfield, IL. They later divorced.Melissa graduated from New Berlin High School. She loved her animals, of which there were many in her life. Melissa was very talented, intelligent, and was a very hard worker. She loved her art and her music.She is survived by her parents; her son, Shane (Ashley) Scranton of Loami; brother, Michael McCarthy of New Berlin; sisters, Melinda McCarthy of Bismarck, ND and Megan McCarthy of St. Charles, MO; grandmothers; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; companion, Larry Ramirez; and her Tucson, AZ family of friends. In accordance with Melissa's wishes, her body was donated to science.Memorial Gathering will take place from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 305 E. Birch, New Berlin. Memorial Mass will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev.
