Melissa “Missy” Christine Valletta Williams, a beloved resident of Ayden, North Carolina, passed away on February 27, 2024, at the age of 72. She was born on February 15, 1952, to Basil and Janet Valletta in Syracuse,NY.
Melissa is survived by her two daughters, Gretchen (Robert) Lucas and Rebecca (Velez) Dunn, her five grandchildren; Bailee Dunn, Mariah Dunn, Robert Lucas lll, Austin Lucas, Gabriella Dunn and her sibilings; Mark (Lisa) Valletta, Matthew (Amy) Valletta, Adam (Joy) Valletta and Amy Barney
She is predeceased by her parents Basil & Janet Valletta, aunt & uncles Joan & Sam Bersani, Frank & Elaine Valletta, uncle Joseph Valletta and brother in law Jon Barney.
Melissa attended Fabius Central High School where she excelled academically and socially. After graduating, she pursued her passion for helping others by enrolling in St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Utica,NY. Melissa’s dedication and commitment to her studies earned her a degree in nursing and set her on a path of fulfilling her lifelong dream of caring for those in need.
Throughout her career, Melissa touched the lives of countless patients with her compassionate and nurturing spirit. Her colleagues admired her professionalism and expertise, while her patients cherished her warmth and kindness. Melissa’s legacy as a dedicated nurse will continue to inspire future generations in the field of healthcare.
Besides her professional accomplishments, Melissa’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Whether it was attending grandchildren’s school events or hosting family gatherings, Melissa always made sure that her family felt loved and cared for.
Tragically, Melissa’s life was cut short by complications from multiple sclerosis (MS) and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). Despite facing health challenges, Melissa remained strong and resilient, showing unwavering courage and grace until the very end.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Melissa will remember her as a woman of immense strength, kindness, and love. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created. Melissa Valletta will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in her hometown Pompey,NY. Flowers, donations and condolences may be accepted by the Dunn Family and the Lucas Family
