RACINE - Melissa Lorraine (nee: Schatzman) Powell, 52, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on February 9, 1960, the daughter of the late Jerome D. and Twyla F. (nee: Barge) Schatzman. Melissa was united in marriage to Steven D. Powell on January 30, 1993. She had been employed as a teller at Educator's Credit Union for 13 years, retiring in 2005. She enjoyed cribbage, gardening and miniature golf. Melissa is survived by her husband, Steven; children, Stephanie (Nicholas) Chaussée, Angela (Stephen) Smith, Gary Powell and Daniel Powell; grandchildren, Elle Chaussée, Mariah Cotton-Powell and Aaron Cotton-Powell; sisters and brothers, Ruthanne Schatzman, Linda (Ron) Eggert, Wayne (Marie) Schatzman, Terrell (Anita) Schatzman, David Schatzman, Bonnie Schatzman, Susan (Harold) Hoecherl, Deborah Schatzman, Penelope Schatzman, Diane (Hank) Turkowski and Paul Schatzman; in-laws, Raymond and Marilyn Powell. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Dae Marie Schatzman. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 1 p.m. Melissa will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, before services from 11 a.m. until time of service.
