A Life Well Lived

Melvin Emory Fields, a humble servant of Christ, was called to join the lord on June 9, 2023, at the age of 75. He was born on September 7, 1947, in Petersburg, VA, to Lilian Constance Butler-Fields and Luther Henry Fields. From early on, Melvin was a devout Christian and gave his life to Christ at Branches Run Baptist Church in Amelia, VA. Throughout his life, he remained a steadfast follower of Christ and served the Lord at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Melvin was a man of great gratitude, who cherished the blessings bestowed upon him by the Almighty. He was a loving husband to Lucille Jones Fields and a devoted father to his children. He was also a pillar of his community, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Melvin's life was a testament to the virtues of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of God's creations.

Melvin's passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Bruce and Rodney Fields. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Felicia Fields of Englewood, NJ, Sheila Crawley (James) of Saddle Brook, NJ, and Naney Davis (Calvin) of Norfolk, VA, and three sons, Thomas Fields (Sharon Davis) of Englewood, NJ, Earl Fields (Sandra) of Newark, NJ, and Melvin Fields (Carolyn Ghee) of Newark, NJ. Melvin also leaves behind his devoted sister, Shanda Fields (Kevin Reed) of Mckenney, VA, brother Frank Fields (Rosa) of Mckenney, VA, two sisters-in-law, Margie Mitchell of Blackstone, VA, and Virginia Woodler of Petersburg, VA, and two brothers-in-law, Robert Edmonds (Lillie Mae) of Blackstone, VA, and Clinton Hawkes of Blackstone, VA. He was blessed with seventeen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Melvin's life will be celebrated at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served the Lord with humility and devotion. The ceremony will be a solemn occasion, marked by prayers and hymns, as we pay our respects to a man who lived a life of service to others. May Melvin's soul rest in eternal peace, and may the Almighty grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear their loss.
