Melvin F. Pfingsten RACINE – Melvin F. Pfingsten, 86, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Mel was born on September 25, 1929 to Elmer J. and Marie (nee, Nerge) Pfingsten. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; recently going to Washington, D.C. on the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight. Mel married the former Dorothy D. Crisp, celebrating 41 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on October 29, 1996. He married the former Janice D. Richter and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2014. Mel retired from S. C. Johnson after more than 40 years of service. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on many boards and committees over the years. Mel and his wife Dorothy were world travelers. He was also a private pilot and he and Dorothy enjoyed island hopping throughout the Caribbean. Mel continued traveling the world with his second wife Jan. Survivors include his children, Craig (Janis) Pfingsten, Lynn Morgenson, Steven (Donna) Pfingsten, Michael (Diana) Pfingsten and Yasuo Ogawa; grandchildren, Megan Pfingsten, Jenna Pfingsten, Sarah (Brandon) Severson, Laura Morgenson, Hannah Morgenson, Rachel Alvarado, Michael Pfingsten, Jonathan Pfingsten and Rob Lunak; great-grandchildren, Brileigh Alvarado, Bryson Hanaman and Makayla Severson; and his brother, Donald Pfingsten. Mel is also survived by many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Brock Pfingsten. Funeral services for Mel will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2065 Geneva Street, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight.
