Mereda Mae HaflinCOSHOCTON: Mereda Mae" Mert" Heflin, age 89, of Coshocton, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 27, 1928, in Fairfield, Indiana to the late Monroe and Geraldine (Fry) Powell. Mert was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church and taught the kids Caravan Program at the church for many years. She loved to work, go to church, attend to her garden, and spend time with her family. On January 10, 1946, she married Max Heflin who passed away in 1985. Mert is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (John) Butts of Zanesville and Janet (Gary) Forbes of Coshocton; she is also survived by her two grandsons, Ryan (Lindsey) Forbes and Jordan Forbes both of Coshocton; two great-grandchildren, Baylor and Jex Forbes; sister, Betty Lou (Arlace) Duncan of Griffith, Indiana; brother, Larry (Veda) Powell of Greentown, Indiana, and her foster daughter, Lucy Carter of Fredericktown, Ohio and her family.Along with her parents and husband, Mert is preceded in death by her sister, Clara Henry and two brothers, Ernest Powell and Lee Powell. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20 2017, at 11:00 am at the Church of the Nazarene, 1058 Orange St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812 with Pastor Steve Ward and Pastor Alrace Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Coshocton County Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mert's name to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, C/O the Church of the Nazarene. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home. The family would like to thank College Park and Mert's caregiver, Dana, who has provided wonderful care to her these last several years.
