Meta Leona DeWyse of East Tawas passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Tawas City, age 87 years. Meta was born on April 21, 1925 in Bay City to Gustav and Julia (Brandt) Schimelfenig. She graduated from Bay City Central High School in the Class of 1943. Meta worked for several years at the Tawas Chamber of Commerce and the Tawas-Whittemore-Hale United Way organization strongly promoting our community. She will always be remembered for her passion and enthusiasm for the Tawas area and Iosco County as a whole. Meta was an active and proud woman who also truly enjoyed playing cards, cooking, entertaining her family and friends, and the thrill of whitetail deer hunting. Meta was also an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City. Most importantly she adored her family and cherished the time spent together. Meta is survived by her four loving children, Randy (Jan) DeWyse of East Tawas, Tim DeWyse of Tennessee, Sharon (Gary) Bailey of Shelby and Patty Sterling of Tawas City; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Chris) DeWyse, Brad (Sheryl) DeWyse, Amanda Miller, Jenn (Brett) Watkins, Andrea (Kacy) Jones, Josh (Emily) Sterling and Allen DeWyse; five great grandchildren, Ryan, Thad, Cole, Marlon and Paxton; one great great grandson, Leopold; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Meta was preceded in death by her husband, James DeWyse in 1998; her grandson, Randy Gill; and 12 brothers and sisters. Visitation is scheduled for Friday at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City with Pastor Johnathan Schnose officiating. Her family will welcome friends at the church on Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. Interment will take place immediately after the funeral in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
