Mia Hernández, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on June 22, 2023, at the age of 81 in her home in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on March 8, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri to her parents, Miguel and Maria Gonzales. Her parents raised her and her siblings, Juan and Jose, with a strong sense of faith and family values.
As a young woman, Mia met the love of her life, Roberto Hernández, and they married in 1963. Together they built a life and family centered around their love and devotion to each other and their children, Carolina and Antonio. They raised their children with the same values they had been taught as children, instilling in them the importance of education, hard work, and kindness.
Mia will always be remembered for her kindness, warm smile, and generous spirit. Throughout her life, she was actively involved in her community, volunteering at her church and local schools. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
She was a woman of faith and a devout Catholic who never faltered in her love for God and her dedication to her church. Her unwavering faith guided her through life's challenges and gave her comfort and peace until her final days.
Mia is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roberto Hernández, her children, Carolina and Antonio, her grandchildren, Sofia, Javier, Ana, and Lucas, and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Noah. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral mass in memory of Mia Hernández will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Catholic Charities or a charity of the donor's choice in Mia's memory.
