Michael A. Mannato Jr., 81, passed away on May 25th, 2017 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 15th, 1935 in Schenectady, NY to the late Jennie (Casanova) Mannato and Michael Mannato Sr. Mike graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After serving his country, Mike returned to the states and found employment at General Electric, A&M International, and the NYS Assembly. Mike was a Lieutenant in the Auxiliary Police for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Rotterdam Elks, and also a member of the Sons of Italy. He was a parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Church. Mike was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, collecting military items, flea markets and garage sales. He enjoyed meeting his friends every morning at the local diner. Everyone who knew Mike loved him. He had the gift of gab and always had a story to tell. Above all else, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family. Mike is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores Coratti Mannato; his children, Patrick Mannato (Shirley), Michele Mannato Jones (Steven), Angela Mannato and Tony Kistner; his cherished grandchildren, Gregory Jones (Leah) and Lindsay Jones (fiancé Adon Trombley); one brother, Anthony Mannato; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cherished friends. He is predeceased by his brothers, Peter, John and Albert Mannato. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. On Wednesday morning, a prayer service will begin promptly at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Albany St., Schenectady. Entombment with military honors will be at St. Cyril's Cemetery, Rotterdam.
