Michael Bryon Thomas, age 57, passed away on Wednesday March 22, 2017 in the Emergency Room at Morrow County Hospital of an apparent heart attack. He was born on Nov. 2, 1959 in Mt. Gilead to Lowell and Joyce Thomas.
Michael was a 1978 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School. He worked many years for the Wilhelm family in Cardington and also worked at Worthington Industries in Westerville until he was forced to retire for health reasons. Michael could be described as a "workaholic", as he had to always be doing something. He could fix or build almost anything and was always on call by his family. If not working, he would be immersed in a hobby. He made beautiful stained glass pieces, including working on a stained glass window at The First United Methodist Church. He liked watching NASCAR and was a Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan. When he was well he had a wonderful sense of humor. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Cardington.
On July 23, 1988 he married Rebecca High. She survives along with his parents; sons, Michael (Sharon) Thomas of Marion, Chuck VanGundy , and Christopher Thomas both of Cardington; brothers, Mark (Trina) Thomas of Marion, Trent Thomas of Mt. Gilead; sister, Lori Souders of Columbus; three grandsons, Kaden and Karson Thomas and Benjamin VanGundy and step-granddaughter, Kaylee Webster.
Michael was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle and his beloved bulldog, Annabelle.
He is free of constant pain and now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
A memorial Service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at the Cardington First United Methodist Church at a date to be announced. Pastor Paul Turner will officiate at Michael's service and his burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery.
