It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Zidzik on June 17, 2023 at the age of 75, in Elk Grove, California. Mike or Mickey, as he was called by his immediate family, was born on May 15, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Michael was the son of Michael Zidzik and Agnes Zidzik, both have preceded him in death.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marie Zidzik, and their three children: Marcy Hudson (Jon Hudson), Brian Rother (Dara Rother), and Michelle Monaghan (Matt Monaghan). He was grandpa or “Papa” to seven grandchildren - Carly & Justin Hudson, Colden & Keene Rother, and Lillian, Landon & Layne Monaghan. Mike was also survived by his sister Marion (Jerry) and brother Alan (Lisa) and his niece and nephews J & Lisa Rozum and Cody & Tanner Zidzik.
Michael attended Cody High School, graduating in 1966 and joining the United States Navy where he served 7 years. His service working on nuclear submarines took him to many places, ultimately to California where he met and later married his wife, Marie.
Settling in Vallejo, California, he went on to work for Mare Island Naval Shipyard where he made many impactful contributions until his retirement. Mike graduated from Sonoma State University in 1994, to obtain his business degree at Sonoma State University while working full time.
After he retired from Mare Island, he started a new chapter of bus driving for the Vallejo Unified School District where he would finish his working years. He really enjoyed interacting with the kids and safely transporting them to school, athletic events and their many field trip adventures before he and Marie would officially retire in Elk Grove, California.
Mike had a gift for fixing things, he could fix anything from a car to a lamp. He knew how things worked and would use his many tools to fix things to make them work again. He also had a green thumb, growing flowers and tending to a vegetable garden was also something he was good at and enjoyed. When his kids were growing up he volunteered as a coach to many soccer and basketball teams. Mike was also a member of the Vallejo Elks Lodge #559 where he would bring the family to events such as Easter egg hunts, visits with Santa, Father/Daughter dances, and summer picnics at the pool.
His loss will be felt by all who knew him, especially his family. Rest in peace, Mike - Mikey - Dad - Papa - we love you.
