Michael Kevin HarsAGE: 60 • PittsgroveMichael Kevin Hars, 60, of Pittsgrove, NJ peacefully passed away jamming out to his band, "The Chillers" surrounded by his family on Friday, March 3, 2017. Mike was a man who cherished his family, friends, neighbors, bandmates and acquaintances. He was also a beloved teacher, coach, and colleague at Arthur P. Schalick High School for the past 28 years.Mike was born on July 8, 1956 in Denville, NJ. He graduated from Morris Knolls High School in 1974 and Juniata College in 1978. Mike had an intense love for history, football, (real) rock and roll music, drumming, Lionel Trains, the NY Giants, the NY Yankees and collecting hats. Mike's life passion was playing the drums in his multiple bands, including The Chillers, 5th Block, Spartacus Fletcher Band, The Legend, The Plague, The Bad Eggs and Jersey Southern. He was known as St. Nick showing up at family gatherings on Christmas Eve for 30+ years. He was also known for his wonderful story telling, animated history lessons, and his immense amount of knowledge. He always had kind word, wave, fist bump or nickname for everyone he came in contact with. As a high school football and track coach for over 30 years, Mike helped to shape the lives of hundreds of students.Mike is survived by his wife Susie (Sweet) of 35 years, daughters Alyssa and Kerry and dog Gracie. He is also survived by his mother, Lorraine Hars of Rockaway NJ, brothers Pat (Laura) Hars of Budd Lake, NJ, Bruce (Diane) Hars of Alexandria, LA, brother in-law and sister in-law Phillip & Susan Sweet of Wellsboro, PA, brother in-law and sister in-law Chris & Sally Cooney of Athens, PA, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his father Michael A. Hars.A service will be held at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home in Wellsboro, PA on Saturday March 11, 2017. Visitation hours will be from 1-3 pm with services immediately following. Interment and committal will be at the Wellsboro Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held at Schalick High School on Saturday March 18, 2017 at 6:00pm in the gymnasium. The family requests visitors wear Schalick gear, colors green and gold or a hat to the memorial for Mike.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Schalick High School, 718 Centerton Road, Pittsgrove, NJ 08318 - In the memo of the check please write "Mike Hars."
