Buell, Michael Lewis (Mike)Michael Lewis (Mike) Buell, 65, of Willseyville, NY passed away from cancer on August 5, 2017 in Ithaca, NY. He was born on Dec. 17, 1951 in San Mateo, CA to Richard and Bobbie (Craft) Buell. He grew up in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore, MD where he attended Woodlawn High School. Baltimore was his home until the mid 1990's when he moved to Ithaca.Always good at taking things apart and fixing them, he worked as an auto mechanic before apprenticing as a silversmith at Kirk Stieff Silver. Later he worked at SEARS, moving from HVAC to small appliances to computers and security systems. After moving to Ithaca, he worked in maintenance at Cayuga Ridge (formerly Lakeside) Nursing Home where he fixed problems too complex for others. He was a water plant operator for the county at Bolton Point until retiring two years ago. In his spare time, he worked at Bostwick Auctions in Candor, NY. He was known for his tireless work ethic, his knowledge, and his ability to fix nearly anything.Mike was respected and loved for his warmth, generosity and dry humor. He always fixed cars and appliances for friends and family. He made delicious food that he loved to share. He enjoyed lively conversation and debate and wasn't afraid to point out injustice.Most of his hobbies involved making and fixing things. He loved machines: engines, clockwork, computers. He repaired jewelry and made his own. He loved history and read widely. Mike also loved to garden and enjoyed making maple syrup. He left a collection of clocks, watches, and historic artwork.Special thanks to the staff at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA and the staff at Cayuga Ridge Nursing Home in Ithaca, NY for all they did to make Mike and his family comfortable in his last days.He is survived by his wife Alison (Kimball) Buell of Willseyville and his nine children, Michael Jr. of Brooklyn NY, Andrew (Nicole Schodowski) of CA, Jennifer (Joe Elmo), Mary, Caroline, Lincoln, Penelope, Christina and Robert. He will also be missed by nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Thomas R. Buell lll.A memorial service will be held in Danby, NY on Sept. 16, 2017 at the Danby Community Church. Calling hours will be from 10-11 am followed by the service at 11 am. Afterwards a luncheon will be served at 12:30 at the church.
