Olson, MichaelMichael "Hopper" Olson, age 69, passed away at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield WI on February 11, 2017.Mike was born on March 23, 1947 in Eau Claire WI to Leonard and Twila (House) Olson. Mike graduated from Eau Claire North High School in 1965. After graduation, Hopper enlisted in the US
Army where he served in the
Vietnam War stationed in Korea from 1966-1968. Mike married Nancy Soley on November 9, 1968. They had two children Scott Olson (Onalaska WI) born in 1969 and Mindy Olson Mattson (Baraboo WI) born in 1971. Mike and Nancy divorced in 1989. Nancy (Dick) McNish live in Black River Falls. Hopper moved from Eau Claire WI to Norwalk WI where he lived and worked for many years. He moved back to Eau Claire for a number of years before moving to Stratford where he spent the last years of his life.Hopper worked several jobs beginning as Assistant Manager at Kerms Superfoods working with his good friend "Duke" Johnson. Most of his adult life Mike worked as a meat cutter. Hopper was even self-employed for a number of years as bookkeeper and owner and operator of Hops Meats Inc. Hopper's nickname came from his younger years when he played fast pitch softball. Mike was a Pitcher and often would "hop" off the mound. Hopper also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, playing cards, listening to music and fishing. Hopper is survived by his children Scott and Mindy; grandchildren Cade and Colin Mattson; his sisters Sheila (Jim) Sather of Florida, Jenny (Bill) Israel of Tennessee, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. His family would like to especially thank his longtime friend Dan Zirngible for his kindness and support. He was preceeded in death by his parents Leonard Olson and Twila Phalen; his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. A celebration of Hopper's life will take place at the
