SGM (Ret) Michael Royer passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the age of 65. He was the cherished husband of Georgia "Lee" Smith Royer for 45 years. Loving father of Todd Royer (Heather); proud P-Paw of Ryan Royer and Louis Royer (Stacy); proud Poppy of Adissen Royer. Son of Clarice Mier Royer and the late Gervais Royer. Brother of Neal Royer (Fung) and the late Lurry Royer. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Michael was born on November 9, 1950 in Rayne, LA. He was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. Michael graduated Chalmette High School in 1970 and earned his business degree from Upper Iowa University. He joined the United States Navy in 1970 and the United States Army in 1973. He was a decorated Army Veteran achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. Michael proudly served in the Vietnam War and retired after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 PM at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA. Military honors will follow.
