Dr. Michael Theall, 75, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, OH, following a lengthy battle with multiple cardiovascular issues.He was born on Feb. 16, 1942, in Manchester, a son of John and Doris Theall.Michael was a captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1965 to 1970.Dr. Theall earned his BA from St. Anselm College in 1963. Between 1963 and 1974, he taught at Weare High School, Salem High School, and Manchester West High School. He earned his Master's Degree in 1976, and Ph.D. in 1980, both from Syracuse University. He spent the next 33 years in higher education as an educator and department director. A member of 15 professional organizations, Michael authored or co-authored hundreds of papers and publications over the course of his career. He received multiple awards for his lifelong dedication to the improvement of college teaching and evaluation. In June of 2012, Dr. Theall retired from Youngstown State University after 10 years of teaching in the department of education.Michael was a talented musician, enjoying college and community theater and playing piano and guitar.He was a loving father, having been involved in everything from coaching basketball to leading a Boy Scout troop to chaperoning a high school band trip to Orlando, Fla. He enjoyed reading, golf, biking, kayaking, and spending time with his family.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest son, Adam Theall.Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Louise C. Theall, and his brother, John Alan Theall of Durham, and his wife Kathryn. He also leaves his sons, Luke R. Theall of Lorain, OH and Eric J. Theall of Birmingham, AL and his wife, Kristina, and their two children, Sydney and Emmett. Additionally, he leaves behind Adam's children, Emily, Joshua, and Jacob.In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Anselm College Abbey Players.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Parish of Transfiguration Church, 107 Alsace St., Manchester, NH 03102. A graveside burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester, NH 03102.
