LAURINBURG — Michael Wayne "Mike" Tippett, 67, of Carolina Shores, passed away to his eternal home on Nov. 23, 2015.
A memorial service to celebrate his life and service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Stewartsville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date in Hillside Memorial Park.
Mike was born on Dec. 19, 1947 in Randolph County, a son of the late Clyde and Viola Yow Tippett. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. Mike had a distinguished career in law enforcement, retiring after 30 years of service with the Laurinburg Police Department. After retiring, he then worked in customer service with Haney's Tire and Recapping Service.
He was a longtime member of Caledonia United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Village Point United Methodist in Shallotte. He loved classic cars and enjoyed being a member of the Tuesday Cruisers. He loved beach music, eating out, and was an avid sports fan by television only. Mike's greatest times were those spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Noah Tippett and sister Linda Brigman.
Mike is survived by his fiancée Virginia Stanton of the home in Carolina Shores, his sons James "Todd" Tippett and wife Beth of Laurinburg and Timothy "Tim" Tippett of Laurinburg, brother, Kim Tippett of Memphis, Tennessee, sister Ann T. Auman of Asheboro, his grandchildren Jamie Tippett, Hardy Tippett, and Nicholas Tippett, and a host of family and special friends.
The family requests that memorial donations be given in his memory to the hospice of one's choice or to Village Point United Methodist Church, 1391 Village Point Road SW, Shallotte, NC 28470.
