Miguel Andrés Salazar passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2025, in Yekaterinburg, Russia, at the age of 41. Born on August 12, 1983, in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, Miguel was the cherished son of Jorge and Elena Salazar and brother to Camila and Jake. From an early age, he demonstrated a deep curiosity about the world and a genuine compassion for others. He pursued a degree in International Relations at the University of Toronto, laying the foundation for a life devoted to learning, teaching, and fostering global understanding. In 2015, Miguel relocated to Yekaterinburg, Russia, where he taught English and Latin American studies. His students and colleagues admired him not only for his intellect and dedication but also for his warmth, humor, and ability to bring people together. Whether sharing stories, preparing Peruvian meals, or offering a listening ear, Miguel left a lasting impression on those around him. He is remembered with love by his parents Jorge and Elena, his sister Camila, his brother Jake, and his loyal dog Tito. Though far from home at the time of his passing, Miguel was embraced by a close-knit community that valued his presence deeply. A memorial service will be held in Barrie on April 15, 2025. An additional gathering is planned in Yekaterinburg later this year. His ashes will be divided between Barrie and Yekaterinburg—two cities that shaped his life in profound ways. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to organizations supporting global education and cross-cultural exchange causes that reflected Miguel’s enduring values. He lived with purpose, gave without hesitation, and loved without borders. Rest in peace, Miguel.
