Shreyas Mahagaonkar sends their condolences.
I haven't seen Miguel in so many years, although we did exchange the occasional message, my memories of him remain very much the ones of a twenty year old intelligent and sensitive man, always looking to find the most creative way to get to an outcome. I remember him being exceedingly witty on the one hand, and very caring and nurturing on the other. I remember how excited he was when he got a bespoke desktop that his dad had ordered for him for his 21st birthday. That was the beginning of his visual arts path. He was also a very talented writer, with a smart, acid and theatrical sense of humour in his writings. I am so sad to see his life cut short. My heart goes to all his friends and particularly his family. Love to all. Tania
It was shocking for us and difficult to accept the truth after hearing the news. Such strong and terrific willpower saw through the last few years. Miguel, you had a mindblowing talent, we got to learn/hear from you which led to growth in our career path. it is still hard to believe that you are not beside us, your absence is a great loss to us. A Fantastic, Multitalented, Dedicated, Professional Boss to work with. Miguel, You and your amazing designs, and tools developed by you will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family members. I pray to God to give his family and near one's strength to bear this loss. May your soul rest in peace.
No words for this absurd and tragic BS Miguel. You fought it til the very end with the same fight that we all recognize in the way you led your daily life. Your rough exterior was not rough enough to completely hide your soft side, as we could all see the amount of love and care you had for all of the people in your inner circle, which was not hard to get into, and was a very nice place to be. I got life lessons from you, met incredible people through you, ate amazing food with you, and have a huge set of memories of you which will obviously stay with me forever. Love you brother.
I got married during my time at Monitor and Miguel offered to pick us up from the church at our wedding day with his boat. He sailed us to the diner location across the canals. Sai was there as well, they served champagne for us and took such good care of us. A very special memory of that special day in 2005. I also remember quality conversations in Sarpahatipark, with kids around. Last June I was so impressed by Miguels resignation to his health and the gratitude that he had for his life and the love that came his way. May you rest in peace dear Miguel.
Miguel was a wonderful guy with a big heart: always willing to help, great sense of humor, and dared to suitably speak up when needed. He was one of the steady cornerstones in the tight Monitor community and is dearly missed by all of us. My deepest condolences to Sai and Lucia and all others closest to him.
Like many of us, I cherish fond memories of Miguel, his sense of humor and kindness were special. It was always a pleasure to drop by his office for a chat or help on many different things from graphics to IT.
Allard Vegter sends their condolences.
I will remember Miguel as a soft spoken, nice, warm person, with a distinct sense of humor, and a true professional. Whenever you entered the room of Miguel and Fred, there was always a sense of fun, chaos, but also the assurance that this was just the outer layer and that in fact everything was in control. And whenever you had something returned from Dezign, it always looked so much better and convincing than you thought it could be. Also in the Zebra on Wheels era, you could always depend on him. He will be missed.
Miguel, you will be missed! What a great professional you have been, but moreover, what a great person you are - that will remain in our memories forever. I learned a lot from you over the years ("where ink is is attention") with you being a master in making the complex simpler and clearer. We worked together at Monitor and later when you set up Zebra on Wheels (and my brother also started using the services). I will always remember your humble approach and your dedication. I will also always remember the joy and the fun we shared. You complaining about Fred sleeping in the office (watching too much sports at night?) or whatever it was. Wishing the family and close friends all the strength they need. With love, Reinier
Sabine Verbiest sends their condolences.
Dear Miguel, Funny, direct, honest – you were always great to be around. We met at Monitor in August of 2000. The office you shared with Fred always felt as a haven and the place to be for a sarcastic comment, a joke and sometimes office gossip. I enjoyed catching up with you at the Monitor reunions, I remember how proud you were of Sai and Lucia and how you mentioned your daughter had become a real Amsterdam city girl. What a great job you did in setting up Zebra on Wheels, it was wonderful working with you again two years ago. My deepest condolences to Sai, Lucia and the rest of Miguel’s family and close friends. Love, Sabine
Dear Miguel, We first met at Monitor Group. Our offices were very close to each other at the end of the hallway, and I loved dropping in for a quick chat with Fred and you. Monitor was always a place for quirky people, and you fit right in! The one quirk that I remember from your hobby of assembling extremely advanced Lego sets. Am not sure, but think you even designed your own and had a website selling them. Wondering if all these years later you still do that ;-) After Monitor we continued to work together until the moment you died and I will always remember you as a passionate, dedicated partner with an high level of integrity. I am very grateful for the fact that we were able to spend some time together at the last Monitor alumni event. Sharing a last beer before your next journey. Hope an extremely big and complex LEGO set is waiting for you on the other side. Seb
Miguel, I will never forgot how it was to meet you when I joined Monitor. You and Fred were the cool guys in the corner office where there was always something to do. Fun, work pressure, messy office, slides all over the place. I remember you as a person with a great (sometimes weird) sense of humor, humble and a strong drive to achieve things. I am heartbroken to hear this sad news that you had to leave this beautiful world and your beloved ones behind you way too early in your life. Be proud on all what you have achieved and you will always be in my heart. Hug, Noor A lot of strength for everyone you will leave behind.
I remember Miguel from my days at Monitor and our alumni network events ever since. He was always fun to be around, and certainly one of the pillars that defined office culture and spirit. Miguel had this incredible way of letting you know when you were over-asking, but with a smile and an appropriate level of sarcasm. And then – without exception – helping you out nonetheless and proceeding to deliver outstanding work. Engaging, creative, loyal, straight-up, honest, professional are all words that spring to mind when I think of him. I wish much strength to all who loved him. Rogier
Dear Miguel, how I will miss your smile and humor at the annual Monitor alumni dinners, as I have missed them since Monitor Amsterdam was no more. You were a truly remarkable person with a magnificent personality, wicked design skills and rock solid calm. Together with Fred you were the 'dezin dream team', the envy of every organisation both in terms of you as persons and you as professionals. Condolences to your family. I wish them all the strength in dealing with losing you
Dear Miguel, you were a wonderful and crucial member of the Monitor Amsterdam community. A rock for many of us consultants as you shared your dezin skills and as you (with many others like Fred, John, Juul) provided a safe space, briefly away from direct work. Your independent mind and powerful personality was something I respected, while your wicked sense of humor and appetite for a good joke really lit up the place. I also respect, so much, how you fought the last years. And how you would still join at a reunion. Many would avoid these events, you never did, you were never a victim. And with that, you showed us bravery, you showed how you face setbacks. I hope these events, and thus we offered something back. The reunions will never be the same, I will miss you. With condolences for your family, who I hope find strength from these messages.
Dear Miguel, I can't believe that it has been close to twenty years since we met in our Monitor offices. So many good memories and I wish there’d be many more moments coming. It wasn’t meant to be. I will always remember Fred and you, our 'safe haven' for all slides and the go to place for a joke when consulting life became too overwhelming! I will miss your smile, humble presence, and your commitment to and friendship for our Monitor community. Thinking of you & of your lovely family at this difficult time. Love Carolien
