Kouns, Mike,David Michael Kouns, 76, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 11, 2017. Mike was born on April 2, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Male High School in 1959 and the University of Louisville in 1963. Furthering his education, Mike graduated from the University of Tennessee earning his MS in Biochemistry in 1966. After graduate school he joined the U.S. Navy and spent 20 years as a medical corps officer retiring in 1987 as a Lieutenant Commander. After retirement he spent 18 years in hospitals and private laboratories as the Director of Research and Development in Biochemistry in the Maryland and Washington D.C. area. He became a Lion in 2005 with the Louisville East Lions Club. He served many offices there including District Governor. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of Southeast Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Alice Faye Kouns. Mike and Faye were passionate about caring for their many cats throughout their life. Mike is survived by many close friends.Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243).
