Mildred Irene Best Obituary

Apr 04, 1938 - Jan 29, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
JeffersonvilleBest, Mildred Irene "Millie",Mildred Irene (Wate) Best was born on April 4, 1938 to Raymond Wate and Katherine Hollowell in Floyds Knobs, IN. On May 29, 2017, our Lord Jesus said "Well done, my good and faithful servant" to Mille (79) as she was welcomed into her eternal home. She left peacefully while surrounded by her loving family. Her loving husband, Damon Alois Best, was there waiting for her with open arms. She was also welcomed by her parents, her sisters, Mona Nance, Jane Losson and Jean King, her brother, Don Wate, and step-son, Allen Best. She is survived by her children Mike VonAllmen (Sherrie), Dwayne VonAllmen (Sally), Lisa Florence (Danny), Marvin VonAllmen (Tammy) and Misty Best Wright (Allan). She is also survived by her step-children Karalynn Thompson (Keith), William Best (Anita), James Best (Debbie), Brenda Snyder, Janice Murphy (Leroy) and Nancy Schellenberger (Mike). In addition, she leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved dearly. Millie not only leaves behind a family legacy, she leaves behind a legacy of LOVE. Anyone that came in contact with her knew that she loved Jesus and she loved people. Love to her wasn't an emotion, it was truly a VERB. She did so many acts of kindness as she expressed God's love and her love for others. This was shown to her family and friends through her hospitality as she opened her home, regardless of the time of night, and opened her kitchen with so many home-cooked meals. She also gave her time and ear to anyone that was struggling and needed to talk. Many family members have memories of sitting at her kitchen table as she listened to their struggles and provided wisdom that only she could give. Her love was not only shown to her family, but to strangers. She was known to buy socks in the winter and then drive around looking for homeless people to give them to. Millie enjoyed buying and collecting clothes, toys and other items and driving them to the Red Bird Mission in the Appalachian Mountains. She was also a member of the Sunnyside Assembly of God Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana. "Mama's work is done. Now, she's gone on home. The words in our heart are engraved on her stone. She loved a lot in her time. She watched love grow and die on the vine. She stood in the shadows so others could shine. She loved a lot in her time. Mama, you loved a lot in your time." (George Jones)Visitation for Millie will held at Kraft Funeral Home, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany IN on Thursday from 2 pm to 8 pm and Friday from 10 am until 1 pm. Her celebration of life will be held on Friday at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel.
