Milton D. MeyerLake ViewMilton Daane Meyer of Lake View, Iowa passed away on June 13, 2017 in Des Moines at the age of 85. Milt was born on August 18, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa to Ronald and Dena Meyer. He attended rural school, Viola #5, west of Carnarvon through the 8th grade. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1949. Milt began college at the University of Dubuque in 1949. His time there was interrupted while serving his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was part of the medical corp in Louisiana during that time. He returned to finish his studies, graduating in 1956 with a degree in business. During his college years, he served as President of the Phi Omicron fraternity and reigned as King during a May Fete celebration. Milt returned to Carnarvon to farm and he eventually owned and operated the Ronald Meyer Popcorn Company. He married Beverly Larson of Cedar Rapids in 1960 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and they made their home on the lake in Lake View where they raised their three daughters. They spent their later years living in the West Des Moines area.Milt was an active volunteer in the community. He served as President of the Lake View-Auburn school board and was on the board of directors of the Howard Activity Center in Sac City. He also served on the Board of Adjustment for the city of Lake View. Milt utilized his talent for telling jokes and stories by entertaining the residents at Blackhawk Care Center with his programs and antics. He and Beverly also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels to residents in the community. Milt was a lifelong member of Wheatland Presbyterian Church of which his grandfather Rev. Luepke Huendling founded. He served in various leadership positions within the church and taught Sunday School for many years. Milt was a man of quiet, deep faith.Milt was a beloved man known for his ability to make a friend wherever he went. He was well respected and had a kind heart for anyone no matter the need. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who took great interest in watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and music programs. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Milton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly, and daughters Julie Meyer of Omaha, NE; Deb (Douglas) MacDougall of Shueyville, IA; Cynthia (Robert) MacDougall of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren: Matthew, James, Sarah, Grant, and Paul MacDougall; cousins John (Jeanette) Chambers and family; Phyllis (Marvin) Lorenzen and family; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dick and Doris Baskerville; nephews and nieces Paul (Debbie) Meyer, Mark (Judi) Meyer, Jim (Louisa) Meyer, Andrea (Clay) Crouch and families; David (Joyce) Baskerville, Scott (Krista) Baskerville, Terri Baskerville and Tammy (Tim) Dolan and families. Also survived by extended Hundling cousins and families. Immediate family members that preceded him in death include his parents, Ronald and Dena; brother Duane; father-in-law Harold Larson and mother-in-law Laura Larson.Funeral services will be held at Wheatland Presbyterian Church, Breda, Iowa on Monday, June 19, at 10:30 AM, with visitation Sunday evening, June 18, from 4-6 PM at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
