Milt Grieser, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at age 90 on July 23, 2012. He was born on May 8, 1922, in Lodi California to Adolph and Lydia Grieser. He grew up in Lodi and was active in basketball and track. Following high school, he attended University of Pacific, graduating in 1943. Upon graduation he was accepted at Midshipman's school at Columbia University, New York, where he graduated as an Ensign of US Navy. He was promptly sent to the South Pacific War Theater (WWII), commanding first at LCT, amphibious landing craft, and later an officer on a LST. After serving 18 months, he returned to the US and married his college Sweetheart, Maxine Barks.After another tour of duty in occupied Japan, he returned home, resigned his commission and within a month was employed by Pacific Telephone Co., Traffic Dept. in Sacramento, California. He remained with that corporation through transfers and advancements until he retired in 1983 as Division Mgr, Administrative Services, US West, Seattle.Along with work, he enjoyed his family, camping with them and spending time at their beach cabin at Neskowin, Oregon. After their daughters were grown, he and Maxine enjoyed many wonderful trips, both abroad and in the US, especially "sun breaks" in Green Valley, Arizona. He was an avid golfer, and proud to be a Charter member of Sahalee Country Club, Redmond, WA, where he and Maxine moved from Mercer Island, to spend their retirement years. Advancing years and health decline prompted their move to Ellensburg to be near their eldest daughter, Bev Nelson.Milt was a lifelong Christian and church member. A cherished activity of his since childhood was singing tenor in a church choir.He leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Maxine. He will be greatly missed by his family, daughters and sons in law; Beverly (Dale) Nelson, Barbara (James) MacPherson, Betsey (Jim) Clarke, five grandchildren, David (Traci) Nelson, Bryan (Jen) Nelson, Kristy (Kevin) Dwight, Josh (Kim) MacPherson, Lael (Brent) Schneider, 2 great grandchildren, Avery and Brody Schneider and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Janson. A celebration of Milt's life will be held at the First Presbyterian church, Ellensburg, WA, August 3, 2 pm.The family would like to thank the staff and his care partners at Highgate Senior Living, Yakima, and Memorial Hospice for the excellent care of Milt.
