Milton HanssenMilton L. Hanssen was born on May 2, 1930, to John J. and Martha (Lang) Hanssen in rural Hutchinson County. He received his education at a rural school and finished at Farmer, SD.He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Emery where he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Christ in 1944, until he moved to Sioux Falls transferring his membership to Trinity Baptist.He served his country being drafted into the Marine Corps in January of 1952. He served on the front lines in Korea. He was honorably discharged on January 30, 1954.On December 28, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marlyss Buehler at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Emery.Together they farmed in the Emery area for 42 years, retiring in Emery in 1996 and moving to Sioux Falls in July of 2005.While still farming, they had a woodcrafting business going to many craft shows in the area - displaying and selling the wood crafts that Milton had made.After moving to Sioux Falls, they worked part time at QPS mail service, retiring in July of 2010.In 1997, they started spending three months of the winter in Weslaco, Texas, and continued going there for 17 years.He leaves to mourn his wife, Marlyss, children Jim (Rondi), Deb (Dwight) Beukelman, Gary (Valerie) and Linda (Alan) Martinson, 18 grandchildren, Aimee (Keith) Hoffman, Matt Hanssen, John (Jenny) Hanssen, Cody Hanssen, Tiffany (Steve) Pope, Brittany (Drew) Foley, Tanner Beukelman, Brady Hanssen, Allie (Clayton) Garrett, Nicole Hanssen, Spencer (Rachel) Martinson, Chase Martinson, Kara Martinson, Aubreigh Martinson, Caedmon Martinson, Jaden Martinson, Jenna Martinson, Josiah Martinson and 11 great grandchildren, a brother Charles (JoAnn) and sister-in-law, Dorene Hanssen.He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Martha Hanssen, 2 brothers Delayne and Calvin, a daughter, Carolyn Sue, and one grandchild Michael Hanssen.Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December20, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church in Sioux Falls with burial in the Emery Community Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, December 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
