Miriam E. SimsMiriam Alice Edwards Sims, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 2. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Miriam was born on May 3, 1929 in Miami, FL to Hershel and Ethel Edwards. She grew up in Gadsden County and graduated from Greensboro High School. She received a degree in Home Economics Education from Florida State University in 1951. After graduation she taught high school Home Economics in Branford, FL. She was the first Home Extension Agent in Franklin County. She also served as a Page Mother for the Florida House of Representatives for 18 years and did substitute teaching in Leon County.Miriam was an active member of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee. She was a longtime member of the Friendship Bible Study Class and the Women's Missionary Union. Miriam volunteered at Sabal Palm Elementary School, coordinated the collection of the First Baptist Church donations to the Florida Baptist Children's Home and was also a longtime member of the Sabal Palm Garden Club.She is preceded in death by an infant son and her parents. Miriam is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leon Sims, her daughters; Ann Nichols and Janet Busman(Kal), 6 grandchildren; Elizabeth Ann Nichols, Andrew Nichols, Patrick Nichols (Christina), Caroline Offerdahl (Drew), Joshua Busman (Sarah), Matthew Busman, great-grandson; Arthur Busman, a brother; Marcus Edwards (Jean) and a host of nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.There will be a private family burial followed by a Memorial Service to celebrate Miriam's life at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL.
