Miriam Harriet Coleman, 97, of Rochester, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at the Stewartville Care Center. Miriam was born on Jan. 31, 1919, in Clarksville, Iowa, to Robert and Ethel (Kocher) Poisal. She attended Clarksville Public School. Following graduation, she was a caregiver and accompanied a blind friend to Chicago, where her friend took piano lessons. While in Chicago, Miriam attended Century Business College. She returned to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she married J. Russell Shaw in 1940. They owned and operated a donut shop in Clarksville and then moved to Minneapolis where Russell worked at Northern Pump during WW II. Russell died in 1969 and Miriam continued to work at Munsingwear in Minneapolis for 22 years. She married John W. (Jack) Coleman in Rochester. He worked as an electrical inspector for the state of Minnesota and they resided in northeast Rochester. Miriam and Jack enjoyed caring for their home and yard, entertaining friends and attending ballroom dances. Many winters were spent at their home at Victoria Palms Resort in Donna, Texas. Jack passed away in 1997. Miriam continued to live in their home until moving to Shorewood Senior Campus in December, 2009. She is survived by her son, Darrell (Marge) Shaw of Lino Lakes, Minn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and her son, Robert Shaw. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Father John P. Wilmot will be officiating. There will be a private family burial immediately following the service.
