MIRIAM L. HARNISH, 91 PEARL CITY - Miriam L. Harnish, 91, of Pearl City, died Sunday January 5, 2014, at Presence St. Joseph Home in Freeport. Miriam was born on December 12, 1922, in Stephenson County, the daughter of Oliver and Matilda (Denekas) Wilhelms. Miriam was a 1940 graduate of Freeport High School. After High School she attended Browns Business College. On May 23, 1943, Miriam married Delbert W. Harnish. Mr. Harnish died on April 28, 1987. Miriam worked at Micro Switch for 26 years. She was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pearl City. Miriam was a 53 year member of Pearl City American Legion Auxiliary and also a member of the St. John's Ladies Aid. She enjoyed golfing, quilting, playing card games, knitting, crocheting, puzzles and scrabble. Family was always most important to Miriam. Surviving are son, Gerald "Jerry" (Jody) Harnish of Freeport; daughter, Nancy Trampel of Pearl City; two brothers, Russell Wilhelms and Wayne Wilhelms of Freeport; two sisters, Carolyn Amodeo of Freeport and June Gaar of Garden Grove, CA; four grandchildren, Michael (Susanne) Gahm of Pearl City, Steven (Tammy Beverley) Gahm of Cedarville, Joshua (Christine) Harnish of Freeport and Jeremy Harnish of Freeport. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren; Rachel (Steven) Porter, Steffen Gahm, Jacob Gahm, Geoffry Gahm, Dale Gahm, Brooke Beverley, Branden Beverley, Courtney Fredette, Kirsten Fredette and Will Harnish. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, LeRoy and Paul; sister, Dorothy; and one son-in-law, Steve Trampel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. The Rev. Art Stees will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. also at Burke Tubbs.
