Molly Marie Hayes Obituary

Feb 09, 1964 - Jan 28, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Molly Marie HayesMolly Hayes peacefully passed away January 28, 2016. She was at the home she loved on Boston Road. Her loving daughters were blessed to be by her side.Miss Molly Marie Mullen was born on April 22, 1936 in Ellensburg to Lennie N. and Mary Louise (Schnebly) Mullen. She grew up happily with her feisty three brothers in the Kittitas Valley, attending Kittitas Valley Schools, as her mother, grandmother and great grandmother did. As a girl, Molly shared her dad's love for horses and enjoyed her riding club.Molly married the love of her life, Robert Louis (Louie) Hayes on September 19, 1956 in the Kittitas Community Church. This church would become such an important part of her life. Molly was baptized in 2008 and her relationship with God, Church and her Church Family were such a blessing. She was an active member until her death. She sang in the choir (off key, she said), was in charge of Fellowship and "all around right hand gal".Molly and Louie had their first three daughters in 1958 and 1959; Marsha and twins, Pam and Pat. The little Hayes Family moved around during their early years. Because Louie was a lineman with Power City, they "followed the line" through Northern California, Oregon and Washington. Many important life-long friendships were made during this time. The "Power City Families" were really one big family away from their hometowns and roots. They all moved from job site to job site, along with spouses, kids, pets, cars, pick-ups and, of course, pulling their single wide trailer houses! These were wonderful times and memories to Molly, Louie and the kids.Molly became a young widow in November, 1964 when her Louie was electrocuted on the job, leaving his young wife, three small daughters and one on the way. God works in wondrous ways, one life leaving and one life entering this world of ours. This heartbreaking period became a time of light and rebirth when Louie's spunky little namesake, Robin Louise, was born on February 9, 1964 in Ellensburg. Molly married Fred Christen in 1979; they divorced after 10 years and some wonderful adventures together.Molly treasured her friendships. She was blessed to reconnect with many old classmates, spending time traveling, having monthly lunches, weekly breakfasts and, of course, Molly was always up for coffee! Molly treasured all her friendships, old and new. There were so many people she loved and admired. She told her girls she learned so much from these friends' collective wisdom and to always "cultivate and nurture friendships". This was such good advice!Above all, after God, Molly treasured her family - always, always her four daughters. She adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. They were the light of her life, her pride and joy and, often times playmates!Molly will be remembered for her love of family, her beautiful smile, laugh, giving heart, being champion of the "underdog" and the best sugar cookies in the state! (handed down from her mother, Mary).Molly was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Gary (Corky), Patrick, Gale; and a granddaughter, Molly Patricia Marie Bailes. She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Weyand (Joe), Pam Bailes (Larry), Pat Rominger (Ray) and Robin Newcomb (Rob); 11 Grandchildren; April, Brett, Josh, Jake, Sam, Christopher, Louie, Jered, Summer, Emma and Rachel; and 8 great grandchildren plus her many friends and relatives.Viewing will take place at the Kittitas Community Church on Saturday, February 6 from 9-11:00 a.m. Burial following at the IOOF Cemetery from 12-1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life after the burial will be held at the Jimmy Johnson Gymnasium in Kittitas from 2-4:00 p.m.Those wishing to honor Molly, can make donations in her name to The Kittitas Community Church or Hospice of Kittitas County; in care of Brookside Funeral Home, 101 East 2nd, Ellensburg WA 98926.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.brooksidefhc.com.
