Mona Joy Michal, 78, of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away on Nov. 4, 2017, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. There will be a gathering for friends and family at the Valley Funeral Home, 151 East Herning Avenue in Wasilla, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. There will also be a Traditional Service in Gulkana, Alaska, on Nov. 11, and Nov. 12, 2017. Burial will be in the Chistochina Cemetery in Chistochina, Alaska.Mona was born on Sept. 29, 1939, in Gulkana. Mona lived in the Ewan Lake, Gulkana area as a child. She also lived in Anchorage, Eagle River and Fairbanks, Alaska. She attended high school in Fairbanks.Mona worked as a set-netter during the summers in the Cook Inlet. Later she enjoyed working at the P&M Gardens in Eagle River and in housekeeping at the Old Native Hospital. Mona attended the Rise Chapel in Wasilla.Mona enjoyed writing in her journal and raising flowers in her yard. Mona loved summers: she would plant flowers and travel to her native allotment at Mile 50 of the Richardson Highway. She also loved baking bread and helping her daughter-in-law cook for the holidays. She loved her church and her love for the Lord always came first. Her greatest love was for her family, especially her great-grandchildren.Mona is survived by her husband, Joseph of Wasilla; three sons, Steve Wasson of Wasilla, Charles D. Wasson of Wasilla and Kenneth (Dawn) Wasson of Wasilla; daughter, Wanda (Lee) Schuler of Anchorage; sister, Freda Sanford of Chistochina; five granddaughters, Jennifer (Kirby) Puckett of Parker, Colo., Jessica Wasson of Wasilla, Kassandra Wasson of Wasilla, Shelby Shuler of Anchorage and Rachael Wasson of Anchorage; a grandson, Michael Wasson of Anchorage; five great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and James Michal; her parents, JP and Rena Sinyon; three brothers, Paul, Fred and Alex Sinyon; and a sister, Olga Mohammed.Arrangements were cared for by the Valley Funeral Home, 151 East Herning Avenue in Wasilla.
