Montgomery "Monte" Strathe, DVMHubbardMontgomery "Monte" Strathe, DVM, age 72, of Hubbard, IA, passed away on Friday, Oct 21, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral service for Montgomery Strathe will be Friday, Oct 28, at 10:30 am at the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard. Burial will follow in the Hubbard Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct 27 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Salem United Methodist Church. www.boekefuneralhomes.com. He was born on October 6, 1944 to Everett and Mildred Strathe in Harlingen, Texas where his father was stationed with the United States
Army Air Force. The family returned to the Strathe family farm at Hubbard where he attended Hubbard Community School, graduating in 1962. Monte attended Iowa State University and in 1969 received the Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He was a member of Farmhouse fraternity, served as president of the student chapter of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, and was selected to membership in Cardinal Key. In 1969 he joined the Hudson Veterinary Clinic practicing both large and small animal medicine. An active member of the Hudson community, he served nine years on the Hudson Community School Board, eight of those years as president. He was a member of St Timothy's Lutheran Church in Hudson. In 1992 he moved to the family farm in Hubbard, continuing the relationship of the Strathe family with the American Angus Association. Monte bred and exhibited purebred Angus cattle at local, regional, and national competitions. He was an advisor to the Iowa Junior Angus Association and served as president of the Iowa Angus Association as well as the Iowa Beef Breeds Council. In 2006 he suffered a significant stroke leading to health complications until his death. He is survived by his son Tyler, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and grandson Stranton. A sister Jeanne Christensen (Cary) and brother Sterling (Pat) survive him as well as five nieces and nephews. He is survived as well by Tanya Shultz, longtime partner and caregiver. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Nathan Andrew Strathe.
