FREMONT — Morris Collins, age 94, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away at his home on Monday, March 7, 2016, with his friends and family by his side. He was born on June 20, 1921, at the family farm in Jamestown Township, to Lynn Edward and Mary Belle (Tubbs) Collins. Morris attended the Collins one-room schoolhouse in Jamestown Township, and later graduated from Orland High School. After high school, he worked for the Railroad in Detroit, Michigan, and married Edwina (Fair) on Jan. 25, 1946, in Angola, Indiana. He was a farm hand on several farms prior to working for the Farm Bureau in Angola, and held various jobs there and retired as the grain elevator manager, after 30 years of service. He also had his own small farm, and over the years, he kept a small produce stand on the family property. He was a member of the Nevada Mills United Methodist Church, and worked on several committees for the church. He also served as a member of the Jamestown Cemetery Board for many years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching sports, and was a fan of the Detroit Tigers, and the Purdue Boilermaker's. He was an animal lover, he had many cats and dogs over the years, and leaves behind his pet cat, Buddy. Survivors include three sons, Barton Collins, Brett Collins, and Todd (Sharridee) Collins, all of Fremont, Indiana, three stepgrandchildren, Heather (Josh) Fansler of Fremont, Indiana, Amber (Nathan) Weides of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Grant Richardson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Dylan, Shaun, Kaylee, and Jaxon Fansler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edwina Collins; a daughter Mari Collins; his parents, Lynn Edward Collins and Mary Belle Collins; three sisters, June Collins, Pauline Rhine and Dorothy Miller; a brother, Paul Collins, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Collins, Eda Mae Richmond and Hilda Treesch; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Miller, Jim Rhine and Wilford Fair. Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Nevada Mills United Methodist Church, 4710 W. Bachelor Road, Angola, Indiana, with Pastor Craig Johnson and the Rev. Terry Rhine officiating. Burial will follow services at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana. Memorials are requested to Nevada Mills United Methodist Church or to the Collins Schoolhouse.
