Childress, Morton O. Sr.,Morton Childress, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on June 6, 2017. He retired in 1993 as a Captain of the Louisville Police Department after 45 years of service. A proud Marine, Mort served his country during WWII in Guam. Acting as the historian for the Louisville Police Department his passion was to share his vast knowledge of the department with our city authoring "The History of the Louisville Police Department 1886-2003". He provided ancestry information for families of those who served on the Louisville Police Department.With his wealth of information and collection of artifacts of the LPD, his legacy will be shared through the soon to be opened "Mort Childress Gallery" at the Louisville Metropolitan Public Safety Museum. Mort was also an accomplished and enthusiastic senior league bowler at Rose Bowl and more recently Kingpin Lanes. Mort was born on October 1, 1923, Louisville, Kentucky to the late Harlan and Margaret (Drane) Childress. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Marie Childress, son Mike Childress, sisters Eva Wolford and Minda Tingle. Mort is survived by his wife of 17 years, Linda Childress; children Marty (Brenda) Childress, Marvin (Cheryl) Childress and Marilyn (Patrick) French, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Roseanne Sundberg. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243). Visitation will also be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral ceremony at 11:00 am with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
