Shirley Ann Wilson-Young, was born on September 23, 1946 in Forth Smith, Arkansas. First born to Johnnie Mae Howard and Levi Jenkins and the oldest of five Shirley was raised in a home of her grandmother, Inez A. Nelson, in Kansas City, MO.
Young had a passion for helping others and dedicated much of her life to volunteering at local charities and community organizations. She was known for her infectious smile and warm personality, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Ms. Young will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Unfortunately, in 2022 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. She fought a hard battle undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and physical therapy. Throughout her illness there was nothing but smile and joy through her fears and anxiety. On Monday, November 18, 2024 at 5:10 am she lost her battle and left to mourn her loving and cherished husband William Young Jr.; sister Cordolia Gray; brothers, Kevin Howard and Ectric Howard; children Alicia Atkins, Lachelle Wilson, Mark and Steve Young, Jabbar Tanner, Tauheedah Rideau, Malika Steele. She also left behind 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and a host of friends and family.
