Halla, Myron E.Myron E. Halla, age 78 of Manitowoc passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Sunday, February 12, 2017.Myron was born on September 24, 1938 in Two Creeks, son of the late Edward J. and Irene E. (Lukes) Halla. He grew up in Mishicot and graduated with the class of 1956 from Mishicot High School. On November 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Anne B. Schumacher at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Menominee MI. Myron worked for the Manitowoc County Highway Dept. for 28 years. Myron was a 3-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Throughout his life, Myron was a dedicated member and often times leader of the many groups he was a part of, including: a member of Local #986 where he was an officer, steward and member of the bargaining committee, AFSCME trustee and current member of AFSCME sub chapter 62, trustee of Wisconsin Retiree Chapter 32, member and officer of Lakes Regional Labor Council for many years. He was a member of the Manitowoc HOG chapter, Manitowoc County Fish & Game- Manitowoc and Cleveland chapters, Manitowoc United Way Board of Directors, Newmar Northernaires, City of Manitowoc Industrial Development Committee, Wisconsin Czechs Club, SS Badger Carferry volunteer, Boy Scout troop 901 assistant Scoutmaster. Myron was also a proud member of The Kiwanis Club of Manitowoc Golden K and a former Jaycee. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish formerly, Sacred Heart Catholic Church.Even in his last days Myron knew how to live life to the fullest. He filled his time touring around the country in his motor coach, wintering in Naples FL, listening to country and polka music, watching stock car races, discussing politics, hosting fish boils and hog roasts. He enjoyed his annual get-togethers with his high school classmates, attending Masquers plays and especially enjoyed riding his Harley. Myron took pride in always having a clean car and a spiffy yard, but most of all, Myron was devoted to his wife, Anne and his children and grandchildren.Survivors include Myron's loving wife of 56 years Anne, his two sons, daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren: Michael, Kathy, Elissa and Abby Halla of Manitowoc; Thomas, Sandy, Anton, Nolan and Emma Halla of Dixon IL; as well as his sister Arlene and her husband Dan Schuster of Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Irene Halla.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dave Beaudry will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of his cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Myron's name.
