Nalene Taylor, beloved wife and cherished mother, died on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at the age of 91, surrounded by her children, after complications from a fall. Nalene was born on Jan. 31, 1925. in Ashland, Ore., the only child of Nallie and Elsie Green. The families of both Both of her parents were early settlers of the Goose Lake Valley. Nalene spent her childhood in and around New Pine Creek, a place she always held dear. She attended elementary school, where her mother taught, often in remote one-room schools. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1942. In 1951, Nalene married the love of her life, Barry Taylor. They spent the next 60 years on their ranch in Plush, where they raised sheep, cattle and six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barry, and her son, Tim. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Dan) Hatfield of Roseburg, Brenda Taylor of Redmond, Teresa Taylor (Henry Sholar) of Eugene, John (Theresa) Taylor of Plush and Marla (Bob) Wolf of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grand children; and many nieces and nephews. After Barry's death in 2011, Nalene moved to Cottage Grove, where she continued to enjoy life, frequent visits to Plush and the love of her family. Recitation of the holy rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Plush, Ore., and mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lakeview, Ore.
