Nancy Bennett BernardHaslettMrs. Nancy Bennett Bernard passed away at home on March 18, 2017. She was born on March 23, 1936, in Auburn, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Lela (Bayless) Bennett, and her husband of 54 years, Dr. Rudy Bernard.Mrs. Bernard attended Cornell University, where she met Rudy, the love of her life. She received her bachelor of science degree in 1958 and went on to marry Rudy in 1960.She taught high school biology in New York, New York, prior to moving to Okemos, Michigan. She then went on to work for Donley Elementary School in East Lansing, Michigan. After leaving Donley Elementary, Nancy went to work for Dr. Charles Reeder at Tamarack Rehabilitation Center and, subsequently, Hope Network as a cognitive therapist. Following her retirement from Hope Network, she continued to volunteer there every week until the time of her death.Mrs. Bernard was a longtime and devoted member of St. John Church/St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. She loved her family, the arts (especially music), and sports (especially MSU athletics). Go Green! She had an indomitable, giving spirit, always willing to share her time, effort, and hospitality with those around her. She had a broad network of friends, finding her at the center of many formal and informal social circles. She will be dearly missed by many.She is survived by two sons, Andrew (Lisa) Bernard (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and Daniel Bernard (Okemos, Michigan); daughter Susan (David) Maltbie (Ludington, Michigan); step-granddaughters Julia and Erin Maltbie; sister Diane Bennett (Victor, New York); sister-in-law Ginette (Nick) Garafola (New York, New York); special cousin Sandra Reeder (Okemos, Michigan); and family and friends too numerous to mention.A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, at 10am at St. John Church and Student Center, 327 MAC, East Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church and on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 2pm to 4pm and again from 6pm to 8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:30pm.Those desiring may make contributions to MSU College of Music, Music Building, 333 W.
