Nancy Elizabeth Krantz, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and citizen of White Rock, NM, passed away on December 9, 2016 at the age of 70, following a battle with bile-duct cancer.Nancy was born on June 15, 1946 in Owensboro, KY. Her family moved from Kentucky to Arlington Heights, IL, then to New Canaan, CT, and finally to Tustin, CA. She paid her way through Whitworth College (now University) in Spokane, WA by holding jobs such as clerical assistant to the basketball coach, Richard Kamm. A fellow Whitworth student, Ron Krantz, became her loving husband of 48 years.In 1968, shortly after their marriage, Ron and Nancy moved to Los Alamos, NM before settling in nearby White Rock. While their children were young, Nancy taught three years at Kachina Preschool and Canyoncito Montessori School. She also taught 23 years in the Los Alamos Public Schools. Nancy was a caring, nurturing teacher, and she aimed to maximize student potential. That was her goal for each student. When the family spent the 1984-85 school year in St. Albans, England, Nancy assisted in several local schools.In 1990 Nancy received an MA in Elementary Education (emphasis on Middle School mathematics) from the University of New Mexico. As a teacher she served on numerous committees including Textbook Adoption and Curriculum Writing for mathematics and social science, Hawks Site Council, and Technology; she also secured an NSF grant for science equipment for Mountain School. She supported student activities such as the Talent Show, Math Counts and the Winter Food Drive and organized an overnight field trip to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge for the entire 7th grade of Los Alamos Middle School. Nancy loved her husband, children and extended family, and never forgot to send out birthday cards. She enjoyed travelling, birding, reading, and worshipping God. Up until her final days she faithfully studied the Bible and sang hymns of praise.She was preceded in death by her father, James (Tim) McCarty, and her mother, Martha McCarty. She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Krantz; sons Daniel (Cami) and Douglas (Stephanie), and grandchildren Julia, Jacob, Marli, Kaya and Myella; siblings Pat (Jim) Cummins, Jim (Betsy) McCarty, Bonnie (Don) Holder, Bill (Kathy) McCarty; and many nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service for Nancy will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 17 at White Rock Baptist Church.
