Naomi Younce Cates, 82, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Mrs. Cates was born on June 19, 1934 in Rowan County daughter of the late Homer Garland Younce and Daisy Irene Kluttz Younce. Naomi was a 1952 graduate of Granite Quarry High School and also received an LPN Degree from Rowan Cabarrus Community College. She had worked at Rowan Memorial Hospital as an LPN and at several nursing homes as a supervisor. Mrs. Cates was a member of Christiana Lutheran Church where she helped start the first Girl Scout Troop at the church, volunteered at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, was a former member and officer of the , and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Cates was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Robert Cates; daughter, Tracy Garland Cates; brother, Bill Sells; and grandson, Marco Camastra. Survivors include daughters, Melody Pierce Polk of Salisbury, Wanda Pierce Nesbitt of Salisbury, Benita Cates Honeycutt of S.C., and step-daughter Sandra Cates Camastra of Winston-Salem: grandchildren, Jason Smith, Lindsay Smith Bost, Erin Kirkman Williams, Ashley Kirkman Hobson, Ty Honeycutt, Holly Fox Euart, Jasmine Nicole Tutterow, Madelyn Olivia Smith and Alison Camastra Cooper; and 14 great -grandchildren. Services: Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday at Christiana Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Carl Haynes, pastor.
