Nella Boxum, of Lynden, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at the age of 99. Nella was born on May 11, 1917 in Lynden, to Henry and Johanna (Meenderinck) Bierlink. She was one of six children and attended Ebenezer Christian School. Nella married Albert Boxum on March 5, 1943 and together they had three daughters Janet, Beth and Delores and one son Harvey. The family owned the Boxum dairy farm on the Guide Meridian for many years. Nella loved to volunteer in her community; at Ebenezer and Lynden Christian Schools, Cash for Trash and Mothers Club. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, volunteered for their Ladies Aid club, and was one of the original ladies making their famous Potato Salad. Nella volunteered at the Christian Health Care Center and played Bingo every Friday afternoons. She worked at Edaleen Dairy for a time. Nella is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Albert, brother Fred Bierlink, and sisters Catherine Dykshoorn and Bertha Vander Pol. She is survived by children Janet (Neal) Nieuwenhuis, Harvey (Kathy) Boxum, Beth Boxum, and Delores (Augie) Berendsen; sisters Frieda Visser and Anjean (Henry) Vander Veen; sister in law Shirley Bierlink; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous other nieces and nephews. In honor of Nella, a Memorial Service will be held 2 pm, Thursday, October 20, 2016 at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St, Lynden, WA 98264, with Robert Woodyard officiating. Memorials are suggested to Ebenezer Christian School, 9390 Guide Meridian, Lynden, WA 98264 and Christian Health Care Center, 855 Aaron Dr., Lynden, WA 98264.
