Nelson W. Elkins, 77, of Inverness, FL, died on December 2, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County and the Nature Coast. Nelson was born on August 16, 1939 in Monroe County, IN, the son of Estel Elkins and Cleo (Cotton) Campbell. He was a
US Navy veteran .He was a diesel mechanic retiring from Cummins Diesel in Columbus, IN after 35 years of service. Nelson moved to Inverness, FL in 1992 from Nashville, IN. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Inverness, FL. Nelson loved golfing and fishing.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carol Clark and his great granddaughter Madison. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Kay Elkins of Inverness, FL, three children, Douglas Elkins and his wife Connie of Nashville, IN, Kelly Fruh and her husband George of Inverness, FL and Barry Elkins and his wife Stephanie of Nashville, IN; twin sisters, Linda Lutes and her husband Ron and Brenda Campbell both from Whiteland, IN; ten grandchildren, Lynsie Cahela of Lecanto, FL, Karlie Chambers of Homosassa, FL, Falesha Zwiebel and Kristina Elkins both of Bloomington, IN, Joey Elkins of Columbus, IN, Ashley Elkins, Sean Elkins, Heather Elkins and Kaylee Elkins all of Nashville, IN and Dylan Fruh of Inverness, FL. seven great grandchildren, Mason, Camdyn, Annistyn, Zoe', Ella, Adi and Bryleigh.Mr. Elkins family will receive friends from 1:30 pm to the hour of service on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the First Assembly of God Church in Inverness, FL. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dairold Rushing presiding. In lieu of flowers memorial may be given to Hospice of Citrus County, envelopes will be provided at the church.
