GOSHEN — Nelta J. Swihart, 92, of Goshen, Indiana, and formerly of Howe, Indiana, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing in Goshen, Indiana. Mrs. Swihart was born on Jan. 22, 1924, in Howe, Indiana, to Nathan R. and Marion (Troxell) McKenzie. On Oct. 13, 1944, in Howe, Indiana, she married Maurice L. Swihart. Mr. Swihart preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2008. Living most of her life in LaGrange County, she was a 1941 graduate of Brighton High School. After graduating from high school, she attended business college. She retired from Kirsch Company in Sturgis, Michigan, where she worked for many years. She attended LaGrange Church of God and Waterford Mennonite Church. Maurice and Nelta were passionate about international travel and enjoyed wintering in Sebring, Florida, for many years. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, swimming and playing cards. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Phillip Ramer of Goshen, Indiana, and Susan and Douglas Gulick of Ellettsville, Indiana; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Cynthia Swihart of Holland, Michigan, and John Swihart of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lois Redmond of LaGrange, Indiana, Mildred Hayes of LaGrange, Indiana, Margaret Sunday of Paulding, Ohio, and Sharon McKenzie of Niles, Michigan; two brothers, Bruce McKenzie of Fishers, Indiana, and Dean McKenzie of Eagan, Minnesota; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Pfenning of Howe, Indiana, and Janet Ryman of Goshen, Indiana. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Halcyon Garlets, and Ardelle Johnson; a cousin, Dorelyn Kessens; and four brothers, Van, John, Eldon, and Verl McKenzie. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at noon at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, Indiana, with Janet Ryman officiating. Burial will follow the services at Brighton Cemetery in rural Howe, Indiana. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service time at noon at the funeral home.
