SACO - Newman Victor Bagley Jr., 79, of Saco, passed away in Scarborough on Sept. 2, 2016.
He was born on May 10, 1937, in Saco. His parents were Newman Victor Bagley Sr. and Charlotte Frances (Felker) Bagley.
Newman grew up working at his parent's grocery store in Saco. Newman was a lifelong baseball fan, and a fan of "Splendid Splinter," Ted Williams. "Casey at Bat" was his favorite work of literature. Newman was a voracious consumer of history and science fiction.
Newman graduated from Thornton Academy in 1955, and graduated from Gorham State Teachers College in 1959. Newman took a position as a social studies teacher at Old Orchard Beach Middle School for several years, had a long career in business with the United Fruit Company, Thornton Academy, and finally with the state of Florida helping the unemployed.
Newman was married to Virginia Bagley (Pesce).
Newman is survived by Virginia and their five children, Michael Bagley of Rowley, Massachusetts, Victoria Bagley of Tallahassee, Florida, Barbara Cassidy of Saco, Charlotte Brown of Old Orchard Beach and Amy Bagley of Maine.
Newman enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, Riley, Clara and Amanda.
In his later years, he enjoyed Big Macs and listening to oldies music. Newman was often heard singing to the staff and residents of The Pine Point Center where he spent the later years of his life .
