Bryant, Ninon PauletteNinon Bryant, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Village Crest Nursing Home and Rehabilation Center in New Milford. Ninon was born on June 6, 1922 in Paris, France. She was the daughter of Dr Morice and Manon Taubmann Morgenstern. Ninon is survived by her only child Les and his wife RitaMarie, through a previous marriage, her only grandson Matthew and his wife Melissa Bryant. Whereas, Ninon was a great influence in this marriage. While they all went out to dinner one particular night, Melissa mentioned that when She returned home from one month of volunteer work that they might get engaged. When they returned to Ninon's home, she immediately rushed into her room and returned with a beautiful ring for Melissa to try on, which she still wears to this day. Matt, then informing his mother of the news, gave to him her ring and he was than able to actually propose to her officially on one knee, (Thereby, leaving Ninon and Melissa to break their proposal) From this union came the most precious gifts to Ninon - her two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Evan. Surviving also are her nephews Richard, his sister, Joni Bryant Wilcox, who both reside in Florida and their brother Ronald and his wife Elizabeth residing in Rhode Island with their son Christopher in New Milford and daughter Erin in Brookfield. Another niece in California is Charlene Bryant Lenk. Her step-grandchildren, Dawn Doumeng in New York, Stacey with her husband Tilen in Florida and Scott with his wife Jennifer in Connecticut. Ninon had a wonderful enriched life in Paris with her family and a maid who also served as the cook. She enjoyed swimming and skiing. Her father's side of the family came from a long line of Physicians. This was in a way advantageous to Ninon, being that he was the house Physician for various venues, which enabled her to enjoy many performances of the opera, ballet and the circus. She attended the Sorbonne University where she studied journalism. However, was unable to complete her education due to the invasion of France during WWII. Life became very difficult with the Gestapo invading their home while she had to hide in the tall grass located near their home, being interrogated one on one in a private room trying to entrap her to reveal the whereabouts of her father, who was a great resistance fighter. To escape that area, she traveled at night in deep waters with her mother and grandmother and while on a bus being inspected by the Gestapo, to protect her father they carried false passports to avoid further interrogation. As she continued with her journalism during the war, she met her future husband Melvin (Mel). They married and she became a war bride who soon traveled without him on a cargo ship with a few other war brides to the United States. Here she met for the first time her in-laws. Soon after came the birth of Les. When Mel and her reunited, they lived in Danbury with his parents for a while and he was employed by Federal Glass Company. Before his death, they were married for 65 years with great love and admiration towards each other. She worked as an interrupter along with many other volunteer jobs. They than moved to Bethel, then to Florida for 10 years. where they took care of Ninon's father. who also came to the United States and taught for a while at NYU. He was a noted urologist. While in Florida, they were heavily involved with the Clinton/Gore elections. Another move to Brookfield, CT. Here, in 1980, she started the French Club with a couple of others. After moving to New Milford. they opened the Candlewood Glass Company. Here, she developed another French Club and was active in the Senior Center becoming the King and Queen of the local Village Fair. She and Les. as a young child, usually traveled to Europe while Mel continued on with the family business. Ninon was very well respected and gave her head, kindness and smile to many. She was a true lady, and as a lady, even to this day, would not be seen in public with another man without her husband Mel, even if it was a good friend. She had to be accompanied by another female. She was always stylishly dressed, greatly loved, respected, held to her convections and forged many wonderful friendships. An amazing woman with such great history and a journey that could not have been survived by many. She will truly be missed. With much love, your family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Lakes Church in New Milford, CT.Arrangements by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
