Nolen McCleeryLubbockAurther Nolen "Lucky" McCleery Jr., 63, of Lubbock, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at his home. He was born on Sept. 13, 1953 in San Angelo, Texas to Aurther Nolen and Alta LaFon (Cates) McCleery Sr. He graduated from Lakeview High School in San Angelo in 1973, and he married Karen Holloway on June 28, 1973 in San Angelo. Lucky was known for his talent in music, he played from his heart and his ear, he was born to play and sing. He was a member of the West Texas Music Hall of Fame as a Pioneer and Sidemen. Lucky was the artist for the "Lights of San Angelo" and "Dim Bar Room Lights". He played with Little Jimmy Dickens and Jerry Lee Lewis, just to mention a few. Lucky was a member of the "Texas Connection" and also played at the Grand Ole Opry. Later in life he became a Cobbler and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed spending time with this family and really enjoyed his grandchildren and supported them in all of their endeavors. He never met a stranger he didn't know. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen McCleery; mother, Alta McCleery; son, Nolen Scott McCleery and wife Beverly, the best daughter-in-law around; daughter, Sara Shea McCleery; and four grandchildren, Devin Hodges, Alyssa, Kaylee and Taylan McCleery. He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, "Little" John McCleery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the Oakcrest Suite of Combest Family Funeral Homes of Lubbock.
